While San Diego, CA offers institutes of higher learning such as San Diego State University, the University of California San Diego and the University of San Diego, the community colleges in San Diego offer a less intensive environment. The community college system gives students who prefer a smaller student population or who wish to see if higher education is a "fit" for their future plans a chance to further their education. The community colleges in San Diego are part of a system of three community colleges that include San Diego Mesa College, San Diego City College and San Diego Miramar College. These community colleges offer two-year, associate's degrees to graduates. Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) fully accredits the community colleges as does Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
